CARING FOR THE CARER: How to Sustain the Privilege of Caregiving by Susana Fong

Recent statistics estimate that 43.5 million Americans are unpaid caregivers  [National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP (2015)]  You are not alone!  Caregiving for a loved one with physical or mental health limitations can be more than a full-time job.  How can this burden be a privilege and how can any caregiver sustain this herculean feat? We will reframe and discuss approaches glean from Biblical perspectives which can lend to practical applications. There are no recipes or easy answers, but we will be reminded of the grace and peace that surpasses our understanding as we journey together.

Susana Fong, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, currently employed in a healthcare system in the Care Management Education department. She is married to Dave Fong, a Campus Minister with AACF. Along with their two adult children, they have been actively serving at Chinese Independent Baptist Church in Oakland.
