Finding peace amidst unexpected and unwanted life events, or when the world around us feels out of control, is often very difficult.  It can be challenging to manage our anxiety, and we find ourselves trying to cope through, among other things: procrastination or avoidance, excessive worry, planning for the worst, or simply trying to escape our circumstances.  While we know change in life is inevitable, we can never be fully prepared for all that life has to throw at us. This seminar explores why uncertainty in life is so devastating to our sense of well-being and peace.

Plenary Address #1

Addressing the emotional toll of uncertainty, we will first look at how fear, anxiety, and dread wreak havoc on our development, our personal mental health, and our relationships.

Plenary Address #2

In this session, we explore the nature of emotional, spiritual, and relational peace.  How do we get there, and how do we surrender into an acceptance of the realities of what life brings, without giving up or checking out?

Inter-generational Trauma

Inter-generational trauma is a phenomenon in which a traumatic event and the negative effects related to the trauma are passed to subsequent generations. The way in which previous generations have learned to cope with stressors can create a system that can be transmitted to subsequent generations unless the way in which emotionally unhealthy behaviors are dealt with in a different way. Some inter-generational problems include historical events, abuse, substance use, denial, unhealthy coping habits, detachment, avoidance, etc.

Finding Your Voice of Suffering: Processing Trauma through Scripture Engagement

When you experience trauma you can feel like you have no words for what you experienced, its impact on your life, and the emotions you are experiencing. And yet, expressing your experience, its impact, and your emotions can be a major part of your healing journey. In this workshop, we will learn about trauma, its impact and what the healing journey looks like.  Additionally, we will discover we can find our voice for our suffering in scripture. Lastly, we will engage scripture in processing our trauma in our healing journey.
