Curtis Lowe

Rev., Dr. Curtis Lowe was the English Pastor at the Chinese Christian Church of Thousand Oaks (CCCTO).   He has been a pastor for more than 30 years and has served in four churches as a Senior Pastor as well as in Christian Education and youth ministry. He has a B.A. in psychology from San Diego State University; a Master of Divinity (M.Div) from Bethel West Theological Seminary; and a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) in Spiritual Formation from Azusa Pacific University.  He is also a Certified Spiritual Director (CSD).

Curtis is the visionary behind Enlighten. After his mom passed in 2018, in lieu of flowers for his mom’s memorial service, he decided to set up a memorial fund in honor of his mom.  Because she suffered from dementia during the latter part of her life, he wanted to set aside money to help those with mental health issues.

Curtis enjoys spending time at the beach in Ventura, drinking and roasting coffee.

Carol Lowe

Carol Lowe is a homemaker.  She received her B.S. in Business Information Systems from California State University, Los Angeles.  She worked several years in aerospace, but when their eldest was born, she looked forward to being a stay-at-home mom. Carol has been a support to Curtis in ministry.  Carol enjoys reading Christian fiction, traveling and crafting. They have three children. Carol’s ideal day is to relax in the mountains by a stream, reading a good Christian fiction book and enjoying God’s creation.

The Chinese Christian Church of Thousand Oaks was founded in 1980.  In 1988, they built their current facility as a place of worship for three congregations: Mandarin, Cantonese, and English.  CCCTO has strongly supported the need for promoting the Enlighten Mental Health Ministry for our community-at-large.

Dr. Gabe Lowe interviews Pastor Curtis Lowe

Dr. Gabe Lowe of HQNAPodcast interviewed Curtis in 2020. He asked questions about dealing with mental illness as a pastor, helping others in our communities suffering from mental illness, and how mental illness impacts our relationship with God. They explored themes of mental health, hope, and redemption.

D.J. Chuang of Erasing Shame interviewed Curtis and Carol in 2019.  They shared their own struggles and how they found hope and healing. They also talked about challenges in working with people from shamed-based cultures and the difference between shame and stigma.
